As a big fan of eurorack modular gear and full-size performance mixers, the announced MDMX modular mixer by Menura looks like a lot of fun.
Let's get this out of the way first: the MDMX kickstarter campaign hasn't started yet. There are obviously different types of kickstarters, and this one appears to be more of a "preorder" kickstarter. Usually that means cost and production time are the big variables, but it's very likely Menura will ship units.
That being said, Menura has a nice feature lineup in the MDMX:
- Eurorack compatible format
- A choice of modules to customize the mixer
- Rotary options (Urei 1620 clone)
- Analog components and digital effects
It's not the first modular mixer, but it definately looks like the most customizable. Ecler produced some modular mixers, but they only provided either a few swappable sections, or a single row of channel strips. It's also not in production anymore.
Eurorack compatibility was confirmed in the Instagram comments. What this means is, the mixer can fit and power eurorack modules. But it doesn't quite work in reverse. While Menura's modules will fit in a eurorack case, you currently can not power the MDMX modules with your standard eurorack power supplies.
What modules would you pair with a mixer like this? Let us know in the comments below!
