This set was recorded at Keybar in Brooklyn, New York for Impulse #13 on July 31st. It was a debut set for the Ah Dek sound, which blends a percussion-forward aesthetic with rhythms and sounds from diasporic club music. He combines a composition process rooted in tradition and ritual with a performance approach designed to highlight the connections between club spaces around the world. While this set was intended as a self-described debut performance of “rowdy club shit” (and has the rap acapellas to prove it), it represents the culmination of more than a decade of thinking and learning about the live performance of dance music.
