A collaborative experiment
Distorted Waves, the label founded by Dutch producer Nadia Struiwigh, has released its first compilation, Various Artists 001. The project marks the label’s most collaborative effort yet and reflects its ongoing focus on the technology and tools behind music creation.

Rather than a conventional concept album, this compilation began with a prompt: a custom-made Sci Fi Ambient sample pack designed by Struiwigh. Ten artists, each personally invited, took that starting point and pushed it in different directions, ranging from dubstep to ambient to experimental rhythm studies. The result is a set of tracks that feel like transmissions from parallel timelines.
Not just for the dancefloor
Distorted Waves launched in 2024 with the intent of releasing music made for all kinds of spaces, bedrooms, forest trails, workshops, or train platforms. This release holds to that spirit. While some tracks pulse with percussive weight, others drift and dissolve, resisting any need for a dancefloor.
Each track serves as a reflection of its artist’s individual approach, but the compilation maintains a consistent mood of speculative energy.
“These sounds traveled through many minds, many contexts,” says Nadia. “It’s a kind of group storytelling, one set of frequencies reshaped into many perspectives.”
