Elektron has started shipping the Outbox 8, a standalone box that adds eight configurable audio or CV outputs to a connected instrument over USB. The company first showed it at Superbooth in May 2026 and put it on sale on 9 September.

The box carries eight quarter-inch outputs, usable as eight mono or four stereo channels, running through 48 kHz, 32-bit converters. The outputs are impedance-balanced and DC-coupled, so each one can carry either audio or control voltage. Elektron lists a plus or minus 5 V CV range and output types covering V/oct and Hz/V pitch, linear values, triggers, gates and clock.

Everything connects over USB. There is a USB-C port for power and a USB 2.0 high-speed USB-C data port with power delivery and dual-role data. Elektron says the box needs no Overbridge and no computer, only a USB cable from the instrument. It also works as a USB MIDI-to-CV interface, and because it is class-compliant USB audio, Elektron says it will run with other class-compliant hardware.

Compatibility

Elektron lists support for the Digitakt I and II, Digitone I, II and Keys, Syntakt, Analog Four MKII, Analog Rytm MKII, Model:Samples, Model:Cycles and the Analog Heat range, with per-device differences set out in a compatibility matrix. The Octatrack MKI and MKII, Machinedrum and Monomachine also connect, though Synth Anatomy reports that those three do not support multi-output audio streaming.

Price and availability

The Outbox 8 is $349 in the United States and 299 euros in Europe, and Elektron lists it as in stock. Synth Anatomy reports it is also at Thomann, Sweetwater, Musicstore.de, Perfect Circuit and Gear4Music. It measures 176 by 90 by 28 mm, weighs about 0.35 kg, runs on 5 V at 0.5 A, and ships with a quick guide and a USB-C to USB-B cable under a three-year warranty.
