forestine is an experimental ambient artist who uses modular synths to explore vulnerability and feelings through texture, noise, and melody. They often employ found audio or samples taken from their immediate environment in the Canadian Prairies, and enjoy the ephemeral nature of modular synthesizers, where sounds only exist in a single place and time.

forestine is also one of the raccoons hiding in a trench coat that run Earth Modular Society, an online open mic modular synth community and stream.

Counter Will

This piece consists of modular synth patches made at different times, meant to create an emotional narrative for the listener, moving from a more aggressive melodic piece, to a longer, more emotionally ambivalent ambient drone set that moves into noise, and finally the last section, an older work, is meant as kind of a rest, but there is always a bit of tension.

The term “Counter Will” is a term describing the inner obstinate voice that makes it difficult to move, kind of a personification of internal opposition, attributed to children who resist being controlled.
