Hügelton Instruments has released SynBe, a monophonic bass synthesizer plugin inspired by the Korg SB-100 Synthe Bass of 1975. It sells for $5 or more on itch.io. Synth Anatomy covered the release on 2 September 2026.

What is in it

SynBe has a single oscillator with five modes: triangle, square, saw, pulse and phaser. There are 4', 8' and 16' octave settings and a filter modelled on the original Traveler control, with 12dB per octave low-pass and high-pass sections moved on a slider. The envelope has attack and percussion controls. The plugin ships with twelve factory presets, full MIDI CC control and 2x internal oversampling.

A lower panel adds controls the 1975 instrument did not have: portamento, an adjustable bend range and bend timing, extended resonance behaviour, a noise mix and output drive.

How it was made

Hügelton says SynBe is not an exact hardware emulation because the developer does not own an SB-100. According to the developer, the plugin was reconstructed from surviving technical documentation, published circuit information, material from related instruments and other technical references.

The developer also discloses using generative AI for coding assistance and testing, and says the sound design, visual design and graphics are their own work. Hügelton released Kepra, an emulation of the Korg KPR-77 drum machine, in August 2026.

Price and availability

SynBe is available now as a VST3 and AudioUnit v2 plugin. The macOS build is universal, covering Apple Silicon and Intel, and there is a 64-bit Windows build. The download is 28MB on macOS and 8MB on Windows.
