Locust, the project of producer Mark Van Hoen, released Spectral+ today through TODO Records. It is the first Locust album since The First Cause in October 2023, and it lands on a new label: that record came out on Mysteries of the Deep.
The 10-track album is built around guest vocalists. Griff Spex, Olive Kimoto, Natasha Morrow, Nick Holton of Black Hearted Brother, Neil Halstead of Slowdive, Natalie Faucauld and Omotola each appear on it.
The label calls it “an eclectic, uniquely slanted collection that draws on classic influences including Giorgio Moroder, Brian Eno, My Bloody Valentine, and Boards of Canada”. Van Hoen says he is “much more interested in songs, these days – the songwriting process”.
The digital album is $11 on Bandcamp, in MP3, FLAC and 24-bit/48kHz. Black vinyl is $26.98 and a limited red vinyl pressing is $29.98.
Locust returned to the stage in 2025, playing its first shows since supporting Massive Attack in the 1990s.
