Nightlife Electronics posted a demo of the cyma forma ALT to YouTube on 7 September 2026, filmed in its shop.
In the description the Vancouver retailer says it was “channeling some BBC Radiophonic Workshop type vibes on the @cymaforma ALT today in the shop”, and “pushing the patch bay to generate some tones on the rhythmic end of the spectrum”.
The ALT is an analog desktop instrument routed through a pin matrix rather than patch cables. cyma forma describes it as “an analog synthesizer designed for drones, soundscapes, and complex generative melodies” with “no screen, no menu, no patching cables”.
It carries five oscillators plus white noise and a built-in microphone. The pin matrix routes four modulation sources, two LFOs, a sample and hold called Random and an envelope follower called Outline, to 19 parameters. Two stereo filters run in series and switch between low-pass, high-pass and band-pass, with resonance that will self-oscillate.
A delay with a feedback loop, two light sensors and an arpeggiator driven by modulation amplitude fill out the panel. The instrument takes CV and MIDI, including velocity, aftertouch and pitchbend. Nightlife Electronics lists it at CAD$1,850 and currently shows it out of stock.
