Phase Fiasco has brought Tape Fiasco 2 to iPadOS, releasing the multi-effect as a standalone app and an AUv3 plugin. It costs $19.99 on the App Store. The company says the iPad version carries the full desktop engine, rebuilt for touch.
The four time engines
Stretch is a dual-grain stretcher. Varispeed is a tape machine with wow, flutter, stop and scratch. Stutter repeats the buffer at rhythmic subdivisions. BendIt is a circuit-bent buffer processor with a seven-zone pitch macro that runs from modulation through to scratching. All four work on a single loop, which can be the user's own audio or one from the built-in factory library.
Behind them sit 30 further effects, which Phase Fiasco lists as covering spectral filtering, modal resonators, distortion, bit destruction and circuit bending, and a master stage with a three-band EQ, compressor, soft limiter and auto gain. The app carries up to 42 modulation destinations, rising to 72 in Perform mode, along with an X/Y pad, preset sharing and Ableton Link for tempo and phase sync across a network.
Price and requirements
The app is a one-time $19.99 purchase, which Phase Fiasco says comes with no subscription, in-app purchases, account or licence key. It needs iPadOS 15.0 or later, is listed at 78.2 MB, and runs standalone or as an AUv3 plugin in AUM, Logic Pro, GarageBand, Cubasis, Loopy Pro and Drambo. It is sold on the App Store by Creative Parade AB.
The desktop version, which Phase Fiasco released in June, remains $29 and covers VST3 and AU on macOS, VST3 on Windows and VST3 on Linux.
