Rain City Modular releases the SCS-X, a dual clock parser in 6HP

Rain City Modular has released the SCS-X Advanced Clock Parser, a dual clock multiplier and divider for 3U Eurorack in 6HP. The module was posted to the company's site at the weekend and is listed at $229.

Clock parsing and pattern generation

Each of the module's two sections can multiply and divide a clock by up to 64x. Rain City Modular says a section can take its clock from the internal clock, the Rain Sync bus, an external input, or the output of the other section.

The company describes two ways of setting the ratio. Numeric mode works in plain multiples and divisions, while in musical mode the output ranges from 32nd notes up to two bars.

Each section also carries a pattern generator. Frame length is set from 1 to 32 steps, with an adjustable number of active pulses per frame, a spread control for the spacing of those pulses and a rotation control for their position. Rain City Modular says that when spread is set to maximum the SCS-X acts as a euclidean sequencer. A separate control varies the pattern from frame to frame.

Specifications

  • 3U Eurorack, 6HP wide, 25 mm deep
  • 16x8 LED dot matrix display per section
  • Clock in, reset in and mul/div out per section
  • Rear sync bus connections
  • 85 mA on +12V, 0 mA on -12V

Price and availability

The SCS-X is $229 on the Rain City Modular store, where it is currently listed as sold out. It joins the company's Sequencer Construction Set range, which also includes the SCS.C sync interface at $69, the SCS.S dual sequential switch and SCS.V voltage sequencer at $139 each, and the SCS.T trigger sequencer at $149. Every module in the range is listed as sold out at the time of writing.
