Shakmat Modular has released Lancer's Lash, a digital snare drum synthesizer for eurorack in 8HP. It went on sale on 9 September and is the third module in the company's drum line, after the Battering Ram kick and the Archer's Rig hi-hat generator.
The module runs seven synthesis models: Analog, Slap, Modal, Physical, FM, Granular and Blend. Shakmat says it "explores several approaches to snare synthesis, giving you a wide palette of strikes, from clean and punchy to fractured and experimental."
The controls stay the same whichever model is selected. Pitch and Decay set tuning and length, Timbre and Color shape the ingredients of the model, and each has its own CV input. There is a trigger input and a velocity input, and each model carries its own effects, including distortion and waveshaping, with an adjustable amount.
A trigger-driven randomizer varies parameters from hit to hit, with an independent depth per destination. Patches go into 256 non-volatile preset slots, recalled by CV or over the Select Bus, and a microSD slot handles firmware updates and preset management.
Price and availability
Lancer's Lash is 285 euros, or $339.99 in the United States, assembled and boxed with a manual. It is available now from Shakmat and from dealers including Perfect Circuit, SchneidersLaden and Elevator Sound. The module is 29 mm deep and skiff-friendly, drawing 60 mA on the +12V rail and 5 mA on -12V, and uses DJ TechTools rubber-injected knobs.
