Sleepy Circuits has opened pre-orders for Hypno 2, an all-in-one hardware audio visualizer, video synthesizer, and re-sampler featuring a built-in touchscreen display and 250GB SSD storage. Korey and I had the chance to speak with Ron, the developer, at the last Buchla + Friends event in Los Angeles, where he demonstrated the first-generation Hypno.
The second-generation device integrates a capacitive touch display, haptic encoder control scheme, onboard microphone, and runs on a Raspberry Pi 5. It supports two channels of video playback with infinite re-sampling capabilities, a ntive resolution of 800x480 and handles sources up to 1080p, and includes CV inputs for Eurorack integration. The unit also features USB ports for cameras and capture cards, allowing users to mix external video sources in real-time.
Priced at $1,349 during the pre-order "patience pricing" period (regularly $1,499), Hypno 2 eliminates the need for external preview monitors and simplifies live visual performance setups. The system includes user-editable shape and FX programs, MIDI support, per-parameter LFOs, and a preset system for quick recall of full system states.
Shipping is expected to begin in October 2025 on a first-come basis. The device comes pre-loaded with Sleepy Circuits' foundational factory library and supports various file formats including H.264 MP4 video, JPEG, PNG, SVG, and custom shader files.
