AI Synthesis has released the AI250 BXR, a 14HP eurorack module that adapts the signal-processing section of a Boxcar Averager, an instrument used in nuclear test labs to capture and analyse fast signals. The module debuted at Knobcon in the Chicago area in September 2026.

The company says the BXR “replicates the real-time mathematical portion of a Boxcar Averager System”, processing incoming audio or CV against a second signal or against its own internal oscillator. Founder Abraham Ingle told CDM the design is “specifically inspired by the SR200 NIM series, especially the SR-235 Analog Processor”.

The BXR is digital. It runs 24-bit audio on a Daisy Seed board and is the first Daisy-based module the company has shipped. Kits arrive with the Daisy Seed pre-programmed, and AI Synthesis publishes the firmware on GitHub.

Controls and connections

Two knobs, marked Function and Argument, select and set the operation applied to the incoming signals. Both are also under CV control. Separate level knobs handle the two audio inputs, which can be swapped, and a switch moves the module between audio rate and modulation rate.

The internal oscillator carries 11 wave shapes selected by voltage and tracks volt per octave. Other front-panel controls cover oscillator shape, distortion and a dry/wet blend. The module has separate main and oscillator outputs, plus a set of outputs the company calls Geiger gates.

The module is 35mm deep and draws 122mA on the +12V rail and 15mA on -12V. AI Synthesis lists it as back-ordered, with a note on the product page reading “If you want one, buy it back-ordered and I’ll start on it after Knobcon.”
