BitByBit Synths has shown a working prototype of MixTape, a eurorack module that sends signal out to a tape machine and takes it back in, matching eurorack and line levels in both directions. The maker posted it on 19 September and says it is not for sale yet.

MixTape is the company's first fully analog module. Its previous release, the WaveBoy, is an 8HP digital oscillator built around a microcontroller that copies the behaviour of the Game Boy's wave channel. MixTape fits in 4HP and is skiff friendly, which the maker says called for mostly surface-mount parts: less friendly to DIY builders, but meant to keep the price down.

There are three knobs, covering the level going to tape, the feedback amount and a dry/wet mix. There is no global input level control, which the maker calls a deliberate choice. The tape return runs through a non-resonant low-pass filter with a cutoff around 16 kHz, added for decks that bleed bias into their outputs. The module uses OPA1679 op-amps rather than the parts more commonly found in eurorack.

The prototype works but needs a board revision: the dry/wet knob is wired backwards and the feedback stage was set to three times gain instead of unity. BitByBit Synths has given no price and no date, saying it hopes “to at least do a small production run soon” and asking anyone interested to say so.
