A pioneering figure of the Modbap community and movement, Corry Banks (aka BboyTech) coined the term Modbap as a representation of his experiments in blending hip-hop and boombap production styles with modular synthesis. As the founder of bothBBoyTechReport.com (Music tech blog for Beatmakers) and Beatppl.com (Music and sounddesign label / brand), BboyTech focuses on assuring the voice of hip-hop is present in musictechnology by combining his passions for hip-hop music and his experience as an IT professionalinto a platform for like-minded individuals and peers. Since then, his innovative contributions inModbap have nurtured a movement in experimental modular synth based hip-hop production.
With beginnings steeped in the Chicago hip-hop scene, Bboytech (formerly known as Phashara) has released several group and solo projects (Beatmonstas – Bomb Til We Hit Em, Phashara -Pathways) showcasing his talents as an Emcee and producer. Having performed as an Emcee insome of Chicago and Los Angeles’ best known venues, BboyTech now turns his attention toperforming live Modbap beat sets where he blends bits of ambient modular synthesis and hardhitting boombap beats.
