AllThatsGone messaged me about playing a set on April 27th for his new monthly electronic event, Future Perfect, and I said yes, at the time, I had a half-built modular patch sprawled across my kitchen table.
The show took place at sunset on a classic San Francisco Sunday, with semi-overcast skies hovering above Lower Haight. The venue, Noc Noc, is a beer and sake bar resembling an alien spaceship carved into a cave, glowing in hues of red, green, and orange, with DJ Whiskeydevil keeping the vibe vibrant between sets.
The night opened with Franck Martin, who sculpted spacious atmospheres using Buchla and Eurorack modular synths, sending sine waves into the room like sonic fog. Next, a fresh face in the underground scene, Darkest Sunray wove melodic lines on a vintage Alesis keyboard layered seamlessly over tight Elektron beats.
I followed, patching together a storm of industrial darkwave using my Eurorack setup, half housed in a suitcase and the rest in a lunchbox. Our host, AllThatsGone, then took over with a controller and Elektron gear, delivering a driving techno set before RMNA closed the evening with her Syntakt, serving up what she playfully called “tall girl techno”, a fitting finale.
The crowd was solid, with familiar faces from the electronic community, including a few coworkers who showed up to see how my brain works through patched chaos.
