Sugar Bytes released an iPad version of Transfigure, its spectral effect and resynthesis plugin, on 17 September. Version 1.0.0 runs standalone and as an AUv3 effect, and needs iPadOS 17.6 or later.
The spectral engine works on incoming audio in the frequency domain, isolating individual frequencies, freezing sound and delaying separate frequency bands. The resynthesis engine detects pitches in the input signal and rebuilds them through an internal sound generator, with scales applied to what it plays back.
An XY pad can be mapped to several parameters at once. Alongside the two engines the app carries a filter, a vinyl effect, a looper and two slots that each take a delay, reverb, phaser or filter with drive.
Sugar Bytes says Transfigure is “not just another multi-effect” but “a sound design tool that creates something entirely new and unrelated to your original audio”.

Price and availability
The app is a free download from the App Store, with the full feature set unlocked by a $24.99 in-app purchase. The desktop version, which runs as VST, VST3, AU and AAX on macOS and Windows, costs $129.
