In this episode of Signal, host Trovarsi welcomes UN/SER. UN/SER is a modular techno live artist based between Poland and Berlin, whose journey evolved from a foundation as an instrumentalist, drums first, then guitar, into electronic music producer and fully hardware live performer. Nine Inch Nails and the industrial world served as the bridge from metal into synthesis, leading to several years of in-the-box production in Ableton before he committed to hardware with the Elektron Analog Rytm, Digitakt and Digitone, and eventually to a fully modular Eurorack practice about a year and a half ago.
His sound is rooted in hypnotic, industrial and stripped-back techno, weaving fluidly between broken beat and four-on-the-floor, and built around long-form development rather than tight song structures. Every set is fully improvised, with the modular system treated as a single, evolving instrument.
His live setup consists of two Amalgam Modular cases: drum voices paired with dedicated filters (Chimera with Mutant Hats, Crucible with an LPG), a Battering Ram kick split through microphone and filter for low-end rumble, dual Vermona filters on the drum bus, a Macbeth dual oscillator through a Macbeth filter for leads, and sequencing anchored around the Moog Labyrinth alongside the Oxi One and Endorphin.es Step 8. Frap Tools Sapèl and a Griffin's Claws controller map the key performance macros, with everything flowing into shared delay and reverb.
He releases music on his own label, and is currently preparing releases built from multi-tracked modular jams rather than in-the-box productions. Alongside his performance work, he is co-curating with Max Dollhouse, a new Berlin concept focused on experimental, ambient and breakbeat, with Kyoka headlining the debut edition.
UN/SER's approach centers on improvisation as authentic self-expression, making music with no time to overthink, letting the system and the moment decide what comes next.
