Hakai Labs released three eurorack modules on 14 September, announcing them on its site after showing them at Knobcon: DEFCON 2, DEFCON 2 Satellite and Dead Flip. All three handle signal routing or triggering by hand rather than generating or processing sound.
DEFCON 2 and DEFCON 2 Satellite
DEFCON 2 is a dual-path analog signal switcher in 8HP, operated by a toggle under a flip-up guard. Hakai Labs describes its high-speed CMOS switching as keeping transitions "silent and instantaneous with zero audible artifacts". Each path carries its own insert loop, so the module can chain a single path, select between two sources, or split a signal into two separately processed paths.
The Satellite is a 4HP CV-controlled version of the same circuit, with a gate output for each path. It daisy-chains from the back of a DEFCON 2, which the company says allows routing to be extended without adding front-panel controls. Both modules are 25mm deep, draw 60mA on +12V and 30mA on -12V, and use raw copper panels that Hakai Labs says will patina over time.
Dead Flip
Dead Flip mounts two pinball flipper buttons on a 10HP panel and turns them into gate outputs, arranged as five columns and two rows, with the bottom row inverting the top. It has three modes, cycled at startup and retained through a power cycle. Gate mode outputs the raw button gates alongside AND, OR and XOR combinations; latch mode toggles individual buttons and combinations; binary count mode uses the buttons to increment and decrement a binary count. The module is 50mm deep and draws 100mA on +12V.
